Professor Helen Cooper

Helen is Professor of Mass Spectrometry and EPSRC Fellow in the School of Biosciences at the University of Birmingham.

Her research focuses on biological mass spectrometry, in particular native ambient mass spectrometry for in situ analysis of proteins from biological substrates. She held research positions at the University of Warwick and the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory at Florida State University, before embarking on her independent career at the University of Birmingham.

Helen has been awarded research funding by UKRI (EPSRC, BBSRC), Wellcome Trust and industry. She was Wellcome Trust University Technology Fellow (2005-2011). She was awarded an EPSRC Established Career Fellowship in 2014, and is one of few individuals to have that Fellowship extended.

She is Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry. She was Chair of the Management Advisory Panel for the EPSRC National Mass Spectrometry Facility (2016-2018), and committee member and trustee of the British Mass Spectrometry Society (2007-2015).
