Llamas vs Viruses at the Festival of Tomorrow
We are excited to be joining the Royal Society Summer Science Exhibits on Tour at the Festival of Tomorrow.
Join Fifi the Llama and researchers from the Rosalind Franklin Institute at the festival finale on the 20th and 21st February to learn how we are fighting viruses. Llamas, and other camelids, can produce a special kind of antibody, known as a nanobody, which researchers are hoping to use to treat diseases, such as Covid-19.
At our stand, visitors will demonstrate how antibodies stop viruses from infecting our cells. Take a look at the 3D scale model of the Covid-19 spike protein and nanobody to see the difference between the antibodies humans produce to fight diseases and llama nanobodies.
