Haiyang’s project aims to study binding of siderophore-metal complexes with bacterial membrane transporter using NMR and identify protein-protein interactions that lead to viral infection using cross-linking mass spectrometry.
Haiyang obtained his integrated Master’s degree in Chemistry with Medicinal Chemistry and a Year in Industry from Imperial College London. He spent a year working with small molecules as a treatment for serious diseases at Vertex pharmaceuticals. During his placement year, he became interested in understanding the underlying biology of serious diseases. His final year project focused on the synthesis of silicon-centred catalyst for direct amidation reactions. Following this, he joined the Franklin as a PhD student in 2024.
