Jack Thorne
Jack holds a MSc(R) in biochemistry from the University of Bristol, specialising in the development and expansion of image viewing platforms within with the Verkade research group. His largest contribution to this field is his Masters project: PyAlyse, a early first step toward bringing the new kid on the block – Napari, in line with the discipline’s favourite child Fiji, a “batteries-included” distribution of the ImageJ platform. Prior to this, Jack’s work focused more on real-time computer vision platforms to help colour-blind lab staff and genetic informatics for disease prediction, both while working in the Baldock group. Despite his extensive work with computer vision and more generally with bioinformatics, Jack considers himself a classically trained biologist, holding a BSc (Hons) in Biology from the University of Gloucestershire, studying a mix of molecular and ecological subjects, but more interestingly geographic subjects including Geographic Information Systems (GIS) where he discovered his other passion in life cartography.
