William Bowles
About

Will is a structural biologist and microscopist investigating how radiation-sensitive biological samples degrade under the electron beam. Following his iCASE Interdisciplinary Bioscience PhD (completed in partnership with Diamond Light Source and the Rosalind Franklin Institute), he is continuing his research into beam-induced damage in both SEM and STEM. His current work focuses on applying alternative scanning strategies to uncover the fundamental physical processes driving structural deformation in vitreous ice.

Originally from Durham, Will holds a BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry from the University of St Andrews. During his undergraduate studies, he specialized in X-ray crystallography, focusing on the structural biology and inhibition of sialyltransferases.
