Trustee David Rees awarded CBE and elected Fellow of the Royal Society
We are delighted to congratulate David Rees, a member of the Rosalind Franklin Institute’s Board of Trustees, on being awarded a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the King’s Birthday Honours.
This recognition follows his recent election as a Fellow of the Royal Society, one of the highest honours for a scientist in the UK.
Dr Rees was Chief Scientific Officer at Astex Pharmaceuticals before retiring last year and has contributed to the discovery of several medicines used internationally, including treatments for cancer and anaesthesia.
These honours recognise his longstanding contribution to medicinal chemistry and the translation of research into treatments that benefit patients worldwide.
Professor Paul Matthews, Director of the Rosalind Franklin Institute, said: “We warmly congratulate David on these well-deserved honours. His achievements reflect an exceptionally active career dedicated to advancing science and delivering impact for patients. We are proud that he also has so generously committed his expertise and insights to the Franklin as a member of our Board of Trustees over the last several years.”
We are proud to celebrate David’s achievements and his continued contribution to the Franklin.
